History of Entertainment

Entertainment 

 of the 

Bygone Times
Our ancestors entertained themselves through music, games literature, drama and arts.
though these criterion's were common for all countries their style was different and they fancied entertainment according to their occupation and choice.  
You can clearly observe the arting up in the pictures are painted for gratification. Even some people chose occupations for their entertainment. famous architects and painters like Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci chose a lifestyle of entertainment for themselves and for others.
it is said that even philosophers like Aristotle and Aristarchus designed their models and discovered the inner science while gratificating themselves. As examples, in the revolutionary era of Europe man designed idols and statues of god which were half naked.

Music

Music is said to be originated in five musical eras, which  gave an outcome of valuable inventions of music, these eras invented different styles of music and also instruments which were later developed and now used as modern instruments. these eras namely are ,

                                                             1.Prehistoric
                                                             2.Ancient                                 (before 500 AD)   
                                                             3.Early                                     (500–1760)
                                                             4.Common Practice                 (1600–1900) 
                                                             5.Modern & Contemporary   (1900–present)

But under Pre-historic music only Ancient and Early music can be taken to consideration as they were made up of the influence of Prehistoric music



1. Prehistoric Music - Prehistoric music which means "Primitive music" was the period of the origination of music.

Prehistoric music was not invented after musical and sound experiments but were imitations and practices of sounds occurred in the nature,
                                           As examples:   Bird songs, Monkeys Beating hollow logs and hollow coconuts,                                                   pitter patter of water droplets etc... 

During this era Music was used to announce special occasions and incidents and also was used for emergency announces among the prehistoric folk .     2.Ancient music- Ancient music is developed by the  cultures of the ancient man and a replacement for prehistoric music.Ancient music is the result of various musical systems in countries like greece,egypt,india mesopotamia,india etc..  it is said that the notation and the scale system was originated in the ancient era.

Ancient era refers to,

                             1.Ancient Greece
                             2.Ancient Rome
                             3.Ancient India
                             4.Mesopotamia
                             5.Ancient China

                                                 Early Music

2.Early Music-     Early music comprises all music of  western music and from the earliest times up to the baroque period.
Early music is classified into two,
                                                1.Medieval
                                                2. Renaissance  


Games


Games were known to be great entertainment from the ancient past. Ancient folk used games to go beyond the normal physical activities of the day to day life and to develop their physical skills.Different games were played by different nationalities of the world. The History indicates that ancient man used animals as opponents of their games. Royalty of the ancient times mostly entertained themselves in public through games, not by playing but by watching fights among lions or fights among bulls and man. Games like dice games, tile games , board games were famous among the ancient man..


 



Literature


Literature was not distributed in the same notation throughout the world but each country held it's own literature history which brought the power of logical argument which lay within the ancient folk.Many literary texts have been lost over the years because of less protectiveness,disasters ,wars and the total extinction of some cultures with wonderful creativeness and precious knowledge of the world and the life in it.

Literature was developed gradually passing many eras like

  • Bronze age
  • Classica
  • Early Medieval  
  • Medieval
  • Early Modern
  • Modern By Century
  • Literature Portal.

Drama 



History of drama is mainly referred to the western history of the subject. India,China, Japan etc.. of all the Asian countries too hold a great history  about the nuance of Drama

History of western drama

 History of western drama can be divided into five main streams such as,
                                                                                            1.Classical Greece                                                                     drama                                                    2.Classical Roman                                                                    Drama                                                      3.Medieval
             4.Elizabethan and
                        Jacobean    
             5.    Modern and Post                                                        modern                                                                                            


Drama originates from ancient greece which is completely proved by the Name "Drama" which is a greek word and gives the meaning 'Action'. Ancient Greek Folk Represented fiction in performance.This was done in the theater  and later became an entertaining activity and was followed by many nations and groups of the ancient time.Romans too followed greece but did lots of changes in the theatre.Roman theatre was more extensive and varied.Medieval referred to europe where at that time mystery plays were presented on the porches of the cathedrals or by players strolling in the streets on feast days.       Medieval Drama (fig11)

The picture shows the painting of a great artist in the medieval period.The ancient man of this period painted pictures half naked. This concept was followed by all artists during this period.
